Production of cameras in Asia has been dominated by Japanese companies.
While others might have produced cameras, they pale in comparison to the Japanese. There were the powerhouses of Nikon and Canon, but many others have had important roles in photography, notably Olympus, Pentax, Yashica (later Kyocera), Minolta and Konica.
There also were other, including Petri, Topcon, Miranda and others.
Japanese camera makers, many of whom had been producing cameras in the early 20th Century, began to emerge as serious contenders in the late 1950s and by the 1970s controlled the global photographic industry, starting with 35mm single-lens reflex cameras and eventually entering the medium- and large-format segments.
This is not a list of all models produced by each camera maker – just those that have reviews or photos available.
