Top 3 Digital Cameras for 2010

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Do you want to know the top 3 cameras for 2010? There are lots of digital cameras to choose from but when it comes to the nitty gritty, these 3 cameras are the best:

No.1 in the list is Nikon’s D300S. This baby includes high definition video capture and takes 10.2 megapixel images. This Nikon is easy to handle but if you are not fond of carrying big cameras, this one is not for you.

The second in the list is the very handy Canon SX200 IS. This is a pocket size digital camera that has 720 HD video recording. The images it takes are 12.1 megapixels CCD –good enough for a small cam you can fit in your pocket or purse.

Canon’s Powershot G11 is the third on the list. Armed with 5x optical SOMM, a flip out LCD screen and 10 megapixels high sensitivity system, this digital camera is quite powerful. The only drawback is, it does not look stylish.

Lumix G Series

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Panasonic has recently unveiled the new additions to their Lumix G series. The Lumix is a micro four thirds camera, also known as a point-and-shoot camera designed with the aspiring yet less tech-savvy photographer in mind. With a sturdy body just like that of DSRLs,  micro four thirds cams are slightly smaller and slimmer because of the lack of a mirror that are present in digital single lens reflex cameras.

The G10 is an upgrade to Panasonic’s earlier models, the G1 and G2. The G10 allows a wide array of functions found in a DSLR in a novice-friendly design. The G10 sports a 12.1 mega-pixel sensor. Although not so large as the others in the market, the G10 allows for a full 1024 by 720 HD video capture -a feature that can be commonly seen only in expensive digital SLRs.

The G10 is slightly pricier than most micro four third cameras, but with the addition of a 14-42 mm kit lens, it is a bargain considering that it allows you to attach other lenses depending on your preference. Feature-wise, the G10 is loaded to the teeth. It is equipped with an AF tracking that allows easy focusing on moving subjects, and custom color modes. The lens, too, is also equipped with an image stabilizing feature to reduce image blur caused by vibrations or camera shake.

Improving your Digital Camera Vocabulary: Lesson II

Here is your second lesson for your digicam lingo. Let’s start with B&W, not the candy and not the restaurant –this means black and white so if someone wants a picture in B&W you already know what it means.

Backlight

This has got to do with your digital camera’s hardware. This is what illuminates your LCD display. The LCD display is where you can view your photos, videos, etc.

Burst Mode

This is your camera’s capability to capture images in a speedy manner through continuous frame capture.

DC Battery

No this does not mean District of Columbia, it means “direct current”. You can see this in your battery for example a 9v DC battery is a direct current battery.

DSLR

You read this one almost all the time but what does it mean? DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex camera. A DSLR can change lenses. Many of this type of camera are produced by Sony, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sigma, Kodak and Olympus.

Buying a Cam for Newbies

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Photo Courtesy of GetItNextAre you a digital camera rookie? If you think it’s high time to buy a new digital camera but do not have any idea what you should keep in mind, do not let all those glossy cover colored in red, pink or blue fool you. You should take a look at the specs. Here are the things you should not forget when buying a digital camera.

Price

If the camera is pricey it does not mean that it has the best specs compared to cameras that are less expensive. Price is an issue especially for someone who wants to get value for his money so when buying a camera, you should keep in mind that if the price is right, and the specs are amazing and you’re in for a good buy.

Specs

You should remember that the higher the megapixels, the bigger photos you can take so you should take a look how many megapixels the camera you are eyeing has. Not all cameras are created equal so you should take a look at the zoom capability as well. Optical zoom is all about the camera’s lens’ magnifying capability. If the optical zoom has a 300mm lens this means you can do a zoom 30x. If you want a lighter camera though you should opt for one with a smaller zoom because as the zoom capability goes up, the heavier the camera would get. If you however want optimum zoom capability, you should also get a tripod to go with your camera.

Compatibility

Make sure that your new camera is compatible to your other gadgets. You should check as well if it provides a software so you can install that on your computer.

Brand

Choose a reliable brand. Make sure that you buy from a direct store or a reputable shop that sells cameras. Some cameras are knock-offs and you should be wary of these

Cell Phones Hurting Digicams

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Most of the newest cell phones have integrated cameras in them and this may be hurting the market for digital cameras. With a cell phone that can do almost anything for those on the go and the less discriminating, a cell phone with a camera is good enough – no need for a digital camera anymore. While pictures taken from cell phones are not that good, handset manufacturers are trying to tip the market into their favor.

A research firm called iSuppli says that the digital camera market is having a hard time since they are not selling the way they used to. According to iSuppli’s representative Pam Tufegdzic, “Handsets soon may begin to cannibalize the low end of the digital still camera market as they incorporate higher megapixels and flash capabilities.”

This will however not bring much of a damage to the camera market especially for enthusiasts but this means that lower end cameras would have to deal with the competition other than their peers in camera manufacturing.

New Nikon Digicams!

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Nikon USA is following the old saying “Out with the old, in with the new” by unleashing new CoolPix models. The CoolPix P100 from Nikon is equipped with rather high-end features i.e. 26x optical zoom lens, 10fps burst (all bursts in full resolution), full HD video recording, and a 10 megapixel CMOS image sensor. This beautiful and powerful camera is in the Prosumer category and can be yours for $399.95.

For those not fond of compact cameras, check out the S6000, S4000, S3000 and S8000 models. These compact cameras are equipped with 14 megapixels and have 10x optical ED zoom. With a vibrant LCD, these compact S-series cameras from Nikon are also HD video recording capable. According to the grapevine, the S8000 will be sold at $300 and will come in silver, black, red and bronze.

The S6000 on the other hand will be sold for $249.95 and it comes in silver, red, bronze and black like the S8000. But what makes these S-series models different from each other apart from the tag price? The S6000 is a slim unit, it is only 1 inch thick but even if this baby is small it packs a lot of power. With its wide optical zoom of 7x and its 4 way vibration reduction capability, this compact camera is something digicam aficionados will love.

The S3000 on the other hand is a budget shutter but looks real cute. At $149.95, this affordable CoolPix camera from Nikon boasts 12 megapixels , 4-way VR, 4x wide zoom and other cool features.  When it comes to video recording, this camera only shows videos in VGA resolution which means it is only 640×480. But that is the only handicap and this baby is cool enough anyway.

Next stop we got the S400 a super cool and super affordable digicam. It boasts 12 megapixels, has 4 way stabilization technology and come in five colors (plum, pink, silver, black and red). Now this is something really cool because it is only $199.95.

The L110 and its sister L22 are the newest from Nikon’s L series. It has 15x zoom which means it has a range of 28 to 420mm. It is HD video recording capable and looks really slick as well. At $279.95 you will never go wrong.
